Hanu Reddy Residences (Wallace Garden), was a perfect delight for our stay in Chennai. We used it as a base to walk to all main attractions, we occasionally used the cheap auto riks (Tuc Tucs)..these were arranged by the front desk if required.
Scrupulously clean room, with cavernous walk in bathroom and toilet. Air con that totally did the job, tea/coffee in room and a TV with all the usual choices. Our ground floor room was perfect for wheelchair access as were all the other facilities and entrance. I would strongly recommend this as a wheel chair access venue.
Set in a little walled garden / courtyard, you have two choices as you walk out of the gate ….turn right and be reminded of the more western presence so often seen in any large city….I recommend turning left and walk up towards the hospital, street food, bustle and a series of busy local trading streets. Take you choice.
Breakfast is simple, but fresh cooked and absolutely delicious. Choice of curries, but plenty of fresh eggs toast, fresh fruit (Papaya and watermelon)… coffee, tea juices….great value! The cook was happy if somewhat perplexed by my need for fat free cooking (I’m on a bit of a diet), but with total good grace produced a delicious range of “fat reduced” curries! (and let me watch him cook fresh Puri’s for breakfast).
By arrangement you can have a simple supper ( its just a question of the cook being aware), we had one delicious simple supper.
So there you have it a perfect, economical, clean, wheelchair accesable home from home in Chennai.
BUT that’s not the very best thing about Hanu Reddy Wallace Gardens. The very best thing was the gentle charm of the attentive staff who made this stay full of memories. You can get all the facilities, but the staff make all the difference, they were absolutely charming, cook, cleaner, handyman .. all lovely. But I guarantee your lasting staff member memory will be the thoroughly excellent Ramesh (Babu) who organises everything to make you sure your stay is perfect. He speaks great English, arranged all our airport pick ups (and sorted the price!) and returns, gave us advice on everything from local Catholic churches to local restaurant choices. He e mailed us prior to the trip to sort stuff out for pick ups and wheelchair … what a top bloke …. With a smile as wide as the Bay of Bengal!
For a simple , good value, homely stay …. This would totally be my recommendation
